Heating and air conditioning in Aurora
Aurora runs from the 1950s blocks near Colfax to new streets past E‑470, and the heating and cooling questions change with the decade the house was built. Marcus has covered Aurora for us since 2004.

Homes we work on in Aurora
1950s ranches near Colfax
Hoffman Heights and the blocks around Del Mar Parkway are full of small brick ranches with basements. Many still have a swamp cooler on the roof and a furnace on its third replacement.
1970s and 1980s split-levels
In Village East and the streets between Havana and Chambers, expect long duct runs to the upper level, return air that's too small and air conditioners from the 2000s near the end of their life.
2000s homes and new builds
In Saddle Rock, Tallyn's Reach, Southlands and Murphy Creek, the high-efficiency furnaces are now about 20 years old. On the newest streets, many heat pumps have never been serviced.
What we fix most often in Aurora
- Snow in the furnace vent pipes
- On the open east side the wind piles snow against houses and blocks the white PVC intake and exhaust pipes of high-efficiency furnaces. The furnace shuts itself off. Clear the pipes by hand and reset the thermostat. If it doesn't restart, call us.
- Steam from the heat pump in winter
- Normal. A heat pump defrosts its outdoor coil in cold weather and steams for a minute. A coil that stays iced over for hours isn't normal.
- Twenty-year-old furnaces
- Homes built in the mid-2000s are still on their original furnace. Inducer motors, control boards and flame sensors are what we replace most often.
- Hail on condensers
- Aurora gets its share of hail from May through August. Flattened fins choke the airflow, and we comb them out before talking about a new unit.

Marcus spent an hour walking us through a heat pump versus a new furnace and never pushed either one. We went with dual fuel. The final invoice matched the quote.

Should I replace my swamp cooler with central air?
If the house has ducts, central air runs $7,800 to $12,900 installed. Without ducts, a ductless system is often simpler. A swamp cooler costs far less to run in Denver's dry air, and many of our Aurora customers keep theirs.
Do you charge more to come to Aurora?
No. Anywhere in our area the visit is $89 during office hours, credited to the repair if you go ahead the same day, and $179 at night, on Sundays and on holidays.
